If your child is walking to camp themselves, this can also be indicated on the sign-in sheet. We want to make sure each child has a plan to arrive to and from camp safely.**

What to Bring

On the first day of camp, each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. We ask that campers wear their T-shirt each day so we can easily identify teams and stay organized. A refillable water bottle will also be provided and should be brought back each day.

Since we’ll be outside playing games for most of the day, it’s important that campers come prepared for the weather and activity.

Please pack the following each day:

  • Lunch and water (we’ll refill their water bottle throughout the day)

  • Hat for sun protection

  • Running shoes (please no cleats or sandals)

  • Sunscreen applied before arrival + send extra if needed

  • Baseball glove (optional—only if you have one; we’ll have extras to share)

We’ll also be handing out freezies in the morning and afternoon as a fun, refreshing treat!

FAQs

Do you have to attend church to go to camp?
Not at all! Kids from all backgrounds are welcome. Many campers have never attended church before, and no previous Bible knowledge is required.

This camp looks really fun—what’s involved in the Bible study part?
Most of the day is filled with sports and exciting team-building games that keep the kids energized. Campers are placed into age-based teams that compete in challenges to earn points. In the afternoon, teams gather in small groups for a short Bible time. This is a relaxed and beginner-friendly session where kids read Bible stories and talk about what they mean.

Who runs the camp?
The camp is run by Scripture Union Canada, with energetic youth counselors leading the games, sports, and Bible time. They’re fun, relatable, and full of energy!
St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Winchester has partnered with Scripture Union to host the camp and also provides volunteers to help supervise and support activities throughout the day. Several other local churches are supporting this initiative as well.

Will there be anyone CPR certified on site?
Yes. All counselors have first aid and CPR training, and several volunteers have medical training as well. Reverend Ed Charlton (volunteer firefighter) and Dawn Erickson (retired nurse) will also be on-site who have certified medical.

Camp Feedback

I have been part of SU Sports camps for 12 years as a volunteer in Arthur, Ontario.  In that time I have seen young people as campers grow to be volunteers and even leaders at the camps.  It is amazing to see the friendships that are built and carry on over the years. The coaches that come to run the camp are always enthusiastic and easy to talk to. They work on getting to know the campers and the volunteers over the four to five days and it is amazing to see how they remember the campers and the campers remember the coaches. It is a wonder time of fun, sports and faith. My kids are looking forward to being part of the Winchester Sports Camp – two as volunteers and one as a camper for the first time.

My son (10) and daughter (8) participated in this last year and had a fantastic time!!! Half my son’s hockey team ended up registering also. I wasn’t sure if the boys would think they are “too cool” to do the bible study part, but the sports part and team building activities we’re so fun that they were ok with the study portion because it was laid out in an easy way. When I asked if they wanted to do it again, it was a quick “YES!”. This will be my son’s last year but I can see him and his friends being volunteers in the future. Hugely recommend!

Are you interested in volunteering?

Many hands make this camp possible! We will have skilled, experienced instructors leading the activities but require additional volunteers to help with the kids groups, coach support, checkin and checkout.

Know an active fun loving teen who would like to gain some volunteer hours? Passionate about kids in the community? We would love your support!

Please see a list of volunteers roles.

  • 2 Daily check in and sign out people
  • 3 people to help with the coaches
  • 6 people (2 for each squad) to go around with the campers

For volunteers over the age of 18, a vulnerable sector check is required. Some of these are present for the whole day some we need in the morning and afternoon for check out.

Please email Ed with interest: winchestersusportscamp@gmail.com
